These nineteen stories present snippets of life in 'two rapidly changing societies standing at the cross-roads of cultures.' UPM English professor Quayum showcases 13 authors.... His choice of stories is subjective, but the anthology embraces a wide spectrum of Malaysia-Singaporean experiences.

· New Straits Times (Malaysia), 13 January 1999.

If the stories chosen appear to be didactic, this was done with a purpose. Quayum, who is a professor of English, planned his book to fill a gap in university teaching, so that the students may ‘appreciate our “own” writers.'

· New Straits Times (Malaysia), 3 February 1999.
