This is a continuation of the series started with SNW1. This collection features 10 stories from Malaysia, 4 from Singapore, 2 from Australia, and 1 each from Hong Kong, India and Korea. All previously unpublished, with some venturing into areas previously thought taboo. SNW3 was sponsored by the Australian High Commission in Malaysia.
Edited by Professor Mohammad A. Quayum and Dina Zaman, the selection of stories [in this volume] addresses a wider spectrum of issues compared with previous Silverfish compilations…. Silverfishbooks received 200 entries for this compilation, but only 19 made the cut. Like its predecessors, the entries for this anthology are made up of completed stories, essays and works in progress. The topics in this volume has a wider range than the previous two books of the Silverfish New Writing series. Themes explored include sexual abuse as seen and narrated by a five-year-old girl, a young gay man on a night out in the town, and a mother who has lost her baby but finds herself still lactating while grieving over her child. · The Star (Malaysia), 8 August 2003. |
